Huge Mahalo to Kamehameha Schools, specifically Lauren Nahme, Kumu Manu Boyd, Kumu Robert “Lono” Ikuwa and Hailama Farden for seeing the potential of Shaka, the Power of Aloha. To date, KS has contributed a monetary gift equal to 20% of the minimum production budget, two top Kumu as cultural consultants and an offer to help raise the additional funding necessary to complete the project.
Teaching Hawai’i Culture, the Aloha Spirit & How to Be of Service
We’re very happy to work with Kamehameha Schools on yet another important cultural and education program for our State. This film, while guaranteed to be very entertaining, is designed as a cultural preservation project to preserve a key piece of Hawai’i history in the story of the Shaka. It’s also the opener of a curriculum model that teaches Shaka and Aloha Spirit values in a watch/discuss format designed to incite viewers to think forward how to apply the story’s values to best serve their communities.
First Shoots
May 9, 2019 saw our first shoots with Aunty Laverne and Uncle Harold. Aunty was so nervous she didn’t sleep the night before, but once she got to telling stories, she was smooth as silk. And Uncle Harold was bigger than life, including his giant soup melons which we made calabash bowls to share.
